Smog Facts
Where does the word "SMOG" come from?
Back in the early days of industrialization, pollution was not understood or regulated like it is today. People started to notice a cloud of smoke forming, but it would hang low like fog. Thus, the description for this unusual observation took on the name of both words, Smoke and Fog = smog.
Vehicles emit over 115 different kinds of pollution from tail pipes. The smog check program only deals with three of them: Hydrocarbons, Carbon Monoxide, and NOx. (Nitrous Oxide).
